Content Restrictions

How Tag-Based Restrictions Work

< 1 min read Updated Jun 6, 2026

Overview

Tag-based content restriction lets you lock pages, posts, products, courses, or any public custom post type behind GoHighLevel tags. A user can only access the content if they have the required GHL tags on their linked contact record.

Three restriction types

  • Has ANY of these tags: User must have at least one of the specified tags. Most permissive, most commonly used.
  • Has ALL of these tags: User must have every specified tag. Use for multi-condition access (e.g. must have both “paid” and “verified”).
  • Does NOT have any of these tags: User must not have any of the specified tags. Useful for showing content to non-members only.

What happens when access is denied

  • Redirect: User is sent to a URL you specify (login page, upgrade page).
  • Show message: User sees a custom access-denied message on the page itself with an optional login link.

Tag matching is case-insensitive

“Premium” and “premium” are treated as the same tag. This prevents restriction failures from capitalization differences between WordPress and GHL.

Three ways to apply restrictions

  1. Page/Post Metabox: Restrict the whole post or page.
  2. Shortcode: Restrict inline sections of content.
  3. Gutenberg Block: Wrap blocks in a restriction container.
