Webhook Troubleshooting

< 1 min read Updated Jun 6, 2026

Webhook not receiving events

  1. Webhook URL is correct: Must be https://yoursite.com/wp-json/syncly/v1/webhooks. HTTP will not work.
  2. Secret header is set: x-ghl-token must be present with the exact secret from your WordPress settings.
  3. Site is publicly accessible: The endpoint must be reachable from the internet. Webhooks will not work on localhost or behind a password protection.
  4. REST API is not blocked: Some security plugins block /wp-json/. Whitelist the webhook endpoint.

Seeing 401 errors in GHL webhook logs

The secret header is missing or wrong. Go to Settings > Webhooks, copy the secret, and paste it into the GHL webhook header value exactly as shown.

ContactCreate webhook creating duplicate WordPress users

This happens when a webhook fires for a contact whose email matches an existing WP user but the link has not been established yet. Make sure email is included in your field mappings so the lookup can match correctly.

Checking webhook logs

Every inbound webhook is logged in Syncly > Sync Logs with type “webhook” and direction “ghl_to_wp”. Filter by this type to see all webhook activity and error messages.
